Consciousness, Doubt, and Human Desideratum

By Juliana Costa

Every human being, at some point in his existence, has doubts. Doubt the future, doubt another human being, doubt even yourself.

And there’s no problem with that, or rather, there’s no problem experiencing it at some point. The real problem would be to live with doubt, without working to understand it.

Yes. Understand the doubt because this is the only way to solve it: looking at it from the point of conceiving where it comes from.

Otherwise, if we, Human Beings, choose to just leave the doubt aside, not pay attention to it, or even pretend that it does not exist, we will give space for it to grow unbridled.

This is because the human being only controls what he knows; the unknown cannot be controlled.

And is there, in this maxim, that is based on the need to understand our doubts and to seek to understand everything that exists and affects us, whether directly or indirectly.

After all, everything we live will lead us to where we should, or rather, where we can go. That’s our desideratum.

See, it is not that this fact of having a desiratum is something determined by God or something external to the human being. No. The human desideratum concerns everything he does.

What cannot be ignored, or rather, what should not be ignored, is the fact that since our birth we have been walking on this path towards this desideratum.

When we let ourselves be taken by thoughts that lead us to doubt and thus grow more and more doubts in our lives, we delay our journey towards this desideratum.

So the doubt does not distance us from this desideratum, because the whole route to reach it is already part of it.

However, when we can run, if we choose to walk, or rather, if we choose to stumble, fall, and take a long time to get up, we postpone our encounter with this desideratum.

Here comes the key, the chance, the gap from which doubt can be understood, and our path no longer needs to be delayed: our Consciousness.

Because our Consciousness, and only our Consciousness, when it is used, makes us no longer doubt, neither of the future, nor another human being, nor of our desideratum, and much less of ourselves.

Consciousness is the house of wisdom, It is the last jewel to be reached towards the meaning of our existence, that is, our desideratum.

And Consciousness teaches the human being everything he can learn, not by imposition, but by availability; not with apprehension, but through attention; not by chance, but with a lot of dedication.

With Consciousness: without doubting. Without doubting: with understanding. With understanding: with a sense of our desideratum at our disposal.
